NORM ADOPTION

We influence global financing institutions to increase proCHW funding.

Ambitious global health targets depend on increased investments in professional CHWs. But financing remains one of the most significant systematic barriers to scaling and sustaining high-quality and equitable community health delivery.

We face barriers of fragmented and insufficient funding for community health. So international donors have a significant role to play. There’s a cost of complacency. Global financing institutions can revise strategies, policies, and investments to eliminate the risk of exploiting unpaid labor to achieve program objectives. Funders can prioritize proCHWs in revised strategies and loosen current policies prohibiting funds from being used for salary support.

Building more robust health systems and advancing global health security require changing the status quo. Bi/multilateral and private philanthropic investments should no longer hinder proCHWs. Instead, funders should invest in partnership with recipient countries. In particular, donors should deploy these funds rapidly and flexibly against government-set priorities. No more high transaction costs, earmarking, short-termism, and appropriation of sovereignty.

Both the amount of funding for proCHWs and the way it is used matter. To maximize impact, we need both “more and better money”. We get “better money” with enhanced data transparency, standardized reporting and harmonized metrics among global funders.

HOW WE ADVOCATE

Drive uptake of prochw priorities amongst global norm setters and funders.

We identify key strategies, policies, metrics, and investments that influence CHW programs. Then engage with funders to influence the inclusion of proCHW priorities in those strategies, policies, metrics, and investments.

HOW WE ADVOCATE

Track and affect investments in proCHWs.

We aim to get the largest donors to direct more funding toward programs supporting and reinforcing professional CHWs. We track community health investments annually and monitor changes to this figure over time to evaluate how our advocacy influences proCHW prioritization and investment at target funders.

HOW WE ADVOCATE

Build stakeholder awareness and cultivate proCHW champions.

We translate evidence into campaigns, talking points, and funding recommendations to influence financing norms. We engage as a movement in key global advocacy windows. We target funders to ensure that we are speaking with the right people and cultivating champions to affect change.
